Original oil paintings

When painting, using many small brush strokes, I can feel like a Victorian embroiderer at her frame. These strokes are later smoothed over to form flat colour.
Images are developed from my drawings and photographs of natural forms. Items are collected from Dartmoor, Dulwich Park and Switzerland.
I paint shadows which are detached capturing the essence of an object, because its reference points have been taken away. This prevents one from labelling elements in the paintings; these images touch your senses in a deeper way.
There is an interactive aspect to the paintings, viewers often believe they can see shapes suggestive of other forms such as; birds, animals, beasts, a baby’s fontanel or faces. This also happens when looking at trees at twilight; they take on a mystical quality.
Mapping the minutiae of the edges of a shadow, I use contrasting
and complimentary colours to add impact to the composition. Here, positive shapes capture moments in time.
Each painting has a particular emphasis; patterns akin to a paint splash or complimentary colour combinations that “sing”.
I enjoy producing images which are dynamic and lively, thus communicating the excitement I experience when working on a painting.
